BOYNTON BEACH CITY MANAGER APPOINTS INTERIM POLICE CHIEF JEFFERY S. KATZ AS PERMANENT POLICE CHIEF
BOYNTON BEACH, FL --- City Manager, Lori LaVerriere, has announced the appointment of Interim Chief Jeffery S. Katz as permanent Police Chief of the Boynton Beach Police Department, effective September 17, 2013. Chief Katz has 24 years of experience; the last 15 with the City of Boynton Beach, serving in the roles of Sergeant and Lieutenant and working within the Departments of Internal Affairs, Training, Media Relations, Recruitment and Agency Accreditation.
Under his direction as Interim Chief, the Police Department has begun the following initiatives:
- Quarterly Town Meetings within community
- "Think" Teams that have proposed new ideas, funding options and implementation methods
- Redesigned hiring process
- Activated Citizen Volunteer registration
- Assessment of Berkshire Report and plan of action
Lori LaVerriere, City Manager, states, "I have been very impressed with the delivery of Police services and positive community interaction that Chief Katz has provided as an Interim Chief over the past 69 days. I am confident that he will successfully lead the Police Department to a new era of policing."
